Cyanogen Mod 10 Jellybean 4.1 Firmware For HTC One S

July 20, 2012

Thanks to Cyanogen mod team for Rolling out CM 10 Jellybean 4.1 update for HTC One S Smart Phone. HTC One S users can finally update there mobile to the latest Android version using this tutorial. All the things might not work, some functionality will work and some will not as its development is still going on. The best part about it is that it provides Android Jellybean version.

It is an custom ROM which will work only on rooted device. And also note that it is an unofficial firmware and we are not responsible for any damage done to the device due to not following the instructions given below. This update should not be applied on network locked device or else it may lock or even brick the device.

Rooting Advice: To apply this update, you will need to install custom recovery image and root your HTC One X by searching on Google. And once the device is rooted, its warranty will end and the only way to get it back is by applying official release by the company. You can check whether you are on rooted device or not by download and installing “Root Checker” app from the Google Play Store.

What Works

  • Recognizes baseband
  • HW graphics
  • Auto rotate
  • Sounds on speaker
  • USB mass storage (strangely this works even though the phone itself cannot get into SD card
  • LED flash (torch app)
  • GPS
  • Most apps

What Doesn’t Work

  • Phone/network
  • Can’t seem to access sd card
  • Root access
  • Can’t turn on WiFi
  • Can’t turn on Bluetooth
  • Auto brightness
  • Headphones
  • Quite possibly everything else

Quick Pre-Requisites:

  • Charge the battery at least 50% so that the phone doesn’t gets down due to lack of battery.
  • Enable USB debugging mode in your device.
  • Exit and disable of the antivirus software in your mobile as well as in your computer so that it doesn’tinterrupts in between the installation process.
  • While updating the mobile, the data may get lost or corrupted. So you must backup the data to a safe place like your computer by following the steps given below:
    • Backup SMS by using “SMS Backup & Restore app”.
    • Transfer contacts by syncing them with Gmail application
    • Store Call Logs
    • Copy Songs, Videos, Files from internal  External SD Card

Steps to Update HTC One S with the Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Update:

  • Download Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Package and Google Apps Package from here to your computer. After downloading, connect your mobile to the computer via USB cable and place the files in your mobile. Do not place them too deep or else it wont be detected in the recovery mode.
  • Disconnect the mobile and turn it off so that it can be entered in recovery mode.
  • Press Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button to enter Boot loader mode in HTC One S.
  • In the boot loader mode, select recovery to enter Recovery mode. Once you have entered in the recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Package and Google Apps Package which you placed in Step 1.
  • Now wait for 5 minutes to let the installation process complete. Once completed, it will land back on recovery mode screen. Select “Go Back” and select “Reboot system now” to start the device normally.

Congratulations you can enjoy Jellybean on HTC One S.
