Update HTC Wildfire S to ICS with Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware

HTC Wildfire SFor HTC Wildfire S there is a good and a bad news, the good news is that Cyanogen Mod 9 is avaiable for them and the bad news is that there won’t be any more updates because the phone has been discontinued by HTC in many countries. In the following tutorial we will be tell you how to successfully apply this update on your mobile phone with added pre-requisites. Users can enjoy Android 4.0 ICS once they have applied this update. Also, there will be many custom ROM coming with Jelly Bean which we will be posting very soon.

This is not an official update released by HTC, its an third party firmware update which has been released and developed by Cyanogen Mod team. In the following tutorial we will also be checking its features.

Pre-requisites of Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware

  • At least 60% battery life must be there to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off.
  • You must be on rooted device if not then root it. And rooting the device will void its warranty but you can get back its warranty after applying the current / factory firmware.
  • Backup data because after updating the mobile, the data may get corrupted or damaged. Follow the steps to backup data:
    • Backup SMS by using “SMS Backup & Restore app”.
    • Transfer contacts by syncing them with Gmail application
    • Store Call Logs
    • Copy Songs, Videos, Files from internal  External SD Card

Process to update HTC Wildfire S on Firmware Cyanogen Mod 9

  • Download Cyanogen mod 9 for HTC Wildfire S Package in your PC from the link given. After downloading, connect your phone with the help of USB cable and copy the file to the internal memory of the device.
  • Remove the USB cable and turn off your device so that you can enter recovery mode. Recovery mode can be entered by pressing the Volume Down key and Powering ON the phone.
  • Once entered in the recovery mode select install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” and then select the Zip file of Cyanogen mod 9 firmware which you placed in the first step.
  • After it has been done select  ”+++Go back+++” and then select select “Reboot System Now” to restart your mobile. You will have to wait for 5-6 minutes after applying the update.

Note: If your HTC Wildfire S smartphone enters in the boot loop mode or  doesn’t proceed after HTC Logo, press the power button for 5 seconds to completely turn off the device and then re follow all the instructions mentioned in this article.
